First off, you can expect to have fun! There will be plenty of paddling, browsing and demonstrations to keep you busy all weekend. But if that’s not enough, there will be live music, food, guest speakers, free clinics and family fun!

Here are a few things to know to help you plan your weekend at Saratoga Paddlefest.

Admission is free.

Test Paddle is $20 for both Saturday and Sunday. PFDs and paddles are provided. You can bring your own, but be sure to get them tagged at the Test Paddle check-in tent. (Bring appropriate paddlewear and a change of clothes.) Test fee is redeemable for boat purchase at Saratoga Paddlefest.

Demonstrations will be held throughout the weekend. Check the schedule inside this guide for details. It’s also a good idea to check www.SaratogaPaddlefest.com for any last minute changes, and to print out a schedule.

Weather: there’s an old saying here in up-state New York, if you don’t like the weather, wait ten minutes. Spring weather ranges from cool to warm, wet to dry. Dress accordingly and bring along a few layers so you can be comfortable. If you’re going to test paddle you may want to bring a change of clothes.

Saratoga Paddlefest Test Paddling

Try before you buy!

At Saratoga Paddlefest you can test paddle as many Canoes, Kayaks and Stand-Up-Paddleboards as you like. Test paddling gives you the opportunity to try out different models and brands of boats, and to compare them in real-world conditions. Manufacturers' representatives will be on hand to answer your questions and assist you.

There is a small fee ($20) for test paddling that allows you to test paddle both days. Life jackets (PFDs) and paddles are included. The test paddling fee is credited towards your purchase of any boat during Paddlefest. (We limit test paddling to 10-15 minutes per boat so that everyone gets the opportunity to try out the boats they want to.)

Test Paddling Rules

So that everyone may have a chance to try the canoes/kayaks in a fair and safe manner, please observe the following:

Check with sales representative before using any canoe, kayak, paddle, life jacket, or other equipment.

Wear a life jacket (PFD) whenever you are in a boat. (PFD and paddles are provided and are mandatory.)

Return the canoe/kayak, all paddles, and life jackets to the appropriate exhibit space after your test paddle.

Be sure you understand how the equipment works before launching (i.e. foot brace). Ask a sales rep or staff member for some basic stroke instruction before you launch if you need it.

Stay close to shore (within 50 yards) and within sight of the exhibitor whose boat you are using. Please stay near the paddling area and do not paddle outside the marker buoys or boundary lines.

Obey instructions of the safety boat.

Limit your trial to 10 to 15 minutes per boat model so others may try the canoes and kayaks that we have today.

Thanks for keeping our gear clean, and please respect the event area and keep it clean.

Test paddle sessions end one hour before the scheduled closing time for the festival.

If you bring your own paddle or PFD, have it tagged at the Information Tent when you sign up for the test paddle.

Kids under 12 must be accompanied by adults during a test paddle.

Test paddle fee is $20, which is good for both days, and is credited to a boat purchase during Saratoga Paddlefest.

It's a good idea to bring a change of clothing.
