A dream started in an abandoned pizza shack in the tiny Adirondack village of Inlet, New York, in 1993.ﾠ A handful of canoes and a modest collection of packs, tents, bags and hiking boots was all there was outside of a prayer that someone would find it and help make that dream a reality. Now Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company is New York's largest canoe, kayak and SUP dealer and one of the best known independently owned outdoor shops in the northeast.
Founder and president John Nemjo hasn't stopped living that dream of delivering quality outdoor products to consumers who want something more than just big box store prices. He has striven to deliver service and unmatched selection in all of his stores. ﾠToday, Mountainman operates five distinct outdoor specialty and paddling shops in Old Forge and in Saratoga Springs, NY.ﾠ His staff is second to none in customer service and his locations make it convenient for millions of people to shop easily in preparation for their trips into the wilderness.
Mike Schoen, Old Forge Gear & Apparel, Rentals
Mike was born in Sarasota, Florida, but moved to the Adirondacks in his early teens. He graduated from the Town of Webb High School and Morrisville State University with a Business Administration Degree.
He enjoys Kayak Fishing, Ice Fishing, Fly Fishing and Hiking. He knows the Adirondack honey-holes like the back of his hand. He's fished all his life and is happy to share his experience with customers. Don't expect him to give away the secret spots, though.
Mike has been a staff member at Mountainman since 2000, and now is the Old Forge Gear Shop and Rental Shop Manager. He has an amazing girlfriend and beautiful little girl, and they enjoy the quiet life in our small Adirondack Mountain Town.
From the cornfields of Lewis County to the mountains of the Adirondacks, Monique Juliette Masters has always loved the outdoors. And working at Mountainman suits her passion for being outside and on the go. You can find her skiing, hiking, camping and out on the Adirondack lakes during all seasons of the year. Her infectious smile and outgoing personality make her a lively spirit on our team and she is always keeping everyone on their toes with her quick sense of humor.
"Mike B" was born just south of the Adirondack Blue Line and spent most of his childhood exploring the wilderness around him. After graduating college with a degree in Music, Mike found himself working in the city and playing bass in a punk band. Years later after a return trip to the Adirondacks, Mike found his love for the outdoors again.
Mike is now a NYS DEC Licensed Guide in Hiking, Paddling, and Fishing, and also volunteers as an EMT and a Mountain Rescue Team Member. Spending most of his time outdoors, hiking, climbing, skiing, paddling and biking, he will be happy to tell you some of the area’s best spots for an adventure. Mike has been a staff member at Mountainman since 2016 and is the Old Forge Gear Shop Assistant Manager and Bike Tech. Stop by and talk to Mike B next time you have a gear question or need some guidance with anything outdoors.
