This clinics covers all the features you should consider when choosing a fishing kayak. We will cover the features you should look for, depending on how and where you plan to fish.


KAYAK SAFETY CLINIC  • Saratoga Paddlefest

Sponsored by Saratoga Lake Association and Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, LLP

Julian Stallard will conduct this safety clinic geared to all kayakers. He will cover properly outfitting your kayak, trip planning and preparation, weather and water conditions, and dressing yourself for a safe and enjoyable paddling experience.  It will review safety prep for all paddlers before you hit the water.
This clinic is free. Saturday at noon at Saratoga show only.

Julian is ACA certified level 2 Kayak and Paddleboard instructor.
Julian has worked at the Kayak Shak instructing paddlers for five years,
and is  a PADI certified dive and yoga instructor, and is Red Cross CPR and first aid certified.

This clinic demonstrates Canoeing Solo in a Tandem Canoe, Solo Canoe and Pack Canoe. Skip will go through solo paddling a Canadian style Prospector Canoe, a sleek American style Solo Canoe and a lightweight Pack Canoe.

Learn how to “fall-on-your-face” (not literally) as a simple skill for getting out of boats with low paddling positions.  We'll cover entry/exit for both calm and moving water.  And we'll demo several methods of carrying your canoe for short distances without a pack, and how to rig a simple system for distance portages.


Pack Boat Clinic

Presenter: Charlie Wilson, Swift Canoe & Kayak

Charlie will discuss pack canoe design concepts, including comfort versus performance.  He will demonstrate how to load gear into a pack canoe and paddler entry and egress. He will also demonstrate various strokes and maneuvers.
